The Jayne Weddings Gift Guide!

This is being reblogged from last year. Why? Because I think it really is the reason for the season. This time of year, I feel like people can get a little to wrapped up in stuff. But giving to a charity not only helps others, it also will fill you with such joy, you may find yourself giving and giving and giving, which is the best was to spend your money this holiday season! Happy Everything People!

Ho ho ho! Katie Jayne here, at Jayne Weddings and Events, I absolutely love Christmas shopping. I love researching the perfect gift, wrapping it up nice and tight in coordinating papers, and watching loved ones joy when opening it! Normally around this time, I put out a list of all of our favorite gifts to give, but this year, I’m am just not feeling it. No, I’m not depressed and I am still filled with my love of all things holiday. But I am overwhelmed every morning by the onslaught of gift guides, e-blasts, magazines, give aways and more, they are coming at me from every which way, and while I did find them helpful, I am over it. I am feeling like everyone is telling me to buy buy buy, and I just want people to CHILL OUT, step back, and give joy in a different manner.  So for this years gift guide, I am shining the spotlight on some of the Jayne Weddings Team favorite charities. Give if you can, or just read up on them and see all the good these businesses are doing! Happy Holidays!

There are so many amazing charities, these are just some that are near and dear to our hearts! If you want to find out more, or find other worthy causes, check out Guide Star.

If donating money isn’t your thing, don’t worry, there are many food drives, coat drives, volunteer drives in your area, sometimes doing is better then throwing money at a problem. If you live in Chicago, check out Chicago Cares! If you live in California check out CA Volunteers!

1 – Oliva’s House – A grief and loss center for Children. They offer an 8 week program to teach children how to cope with their loss in a positive way. At the end of the 8 weeks, they have a celebration of life dinner, and all the children bring in their loved ones favorite food, if that doesnt bring a tear to your heart, your a serious grinch. They also offer therapy to children who lost a pet and so much more. This place truly is amazing. All of their services are free, and 91% of their funding comes from donations, so they relay on them to continue this program. You can donate here.

2 – Earth Works – Not all charities have to cause you to sob into your laptop, Earth Works is a great place to donate to for all us tree hugging, earth loving, hippies roaming the planet. Earthworks is dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from the impacts of irresponsible mineral and energy development while seeking sustainable solutions. Earthworks stands for clean water, healthy communities and corporate accountability. That is something I think we can all get on board with.  Help stop mining, drilling and fracking by donating here.

3 – Child Help -Their mission is to meet the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children. Their primary purpose is to focus their efforts on advocacy, prevention, treatment and community outreach. They offer one of the nations only 24/7  child abuse hotline, provide both long and short term foster care, have a community center that provides assistance for families in crisis, have group homes for older children that assist them when entering adult hood, and they have these awesome villages. Located in a private, but gorgeous rural area, the villages offer specialized, comprehensive treatment programs for court-referred, severely abused, neglected and at risk children. These kids deserve that and so much more. Spending a day on a village could change your life.  Donate or volunteer here.

4 – Wish Upon A Wedding – We love this charity! Duh, cause everyone should be able to have their dream wedding! Basically they grant dream weddings to couples who have terminal illnesses. Whoo, someone pass me a tissue. Their goal is to celebrate the courage, determination and spirit of couples under these circumstances.  They also find that hosting these dream weddings provides inspiration and hope to other couples dealing with similar issues. You can donate here, or if you are a couple about to get married, why not have your guests donate in lieu of wedding gifts?
